Legendary actor Sidney Poitier, who broke barriers in 1963 as the first African American to win an Oscar for his performance in Lilies of the Field, has died at age 94.

Some of Poitier’s most notable roles, which spanned his 71-year career, included A Raisin in the Sun, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and Uptown Saturday Night.
