As with the Bourne pictures, Christopher Nolan’s Batman trio set the standard for superhero movies by pretending they’re not superhero movies. They’re psychodramas teetering at some nexus where surrealism, hypernoir, and post-9/11 apocalyptic fable intersect. In part three Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne reclaims his own story, which—like most great fables—asks what is real and what is myth. (Warner Bros., $29)
