Quick Take: El Ten Eleven’s Transitions

With only two members, it’s baffling how El Ten Eleven creates such a deep sound—even if you’ve seen Kristian Dunn shred on his doubleneck bass guitar. Backed by Tim Fogarty’s drumbeats, the instrumental tunes shudder and crescendo without feeling overworked. The band’s fifth album (Fake Record Label, $12) is almost a throwback. Chunky, melodic riffs recall guitar-driven ’90s college rock, as if Built to Spill and Sebadoh have been updated for a new world order.
