Oh Sssssnap: The First Trailer for Disney’s Live-Action Jungle Book Is Here

And it’s narrated by a snake with a sssssuper recognizable voice

Mowgli oh my.

The first trailer for Disney’s live-action Jungle Book is here, and it takes us deep into the wild (with a star studded cast, no less).  Scarlett Johansson has gone from disembodied artificial intelligence program to CGI serpent, lending her recognizable voice to the character of Kaa. Idris Elba voices the tiger Shere Khan, Bill Murray brings the bear Baloo to life, and Ben Kingsley plays the panther Bagheera.

The reboot, helmed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau, is certainly a departure from the beloved 1967 version—for starters, Mowgli’s pals look more likely to tear his tiny face off rather than burst into a song and dance—but such has been Disney’s game since deciding to revisit the animated classics from their vault. The only live element of the film is Mowgli, played by newcomer Neel Sethi; the rest of the gang has been beautifully (and ferociously) digitized, as Favreau employed the motion-capture techniques used by James Cameron in Avatar.

The Jungle Book is set to hit theaters in April 2016.
