Once upon a time, we all might have spent our weekends going out to concerts or clubs and finding ourselves awash in new music. These days we’re limited to headphone jams and living room dance parties–but that hasn’t stopped talented artists from putting out new music for us to enjoy. Each week, we’ll pick a handful of newly released songs worth a play.
This Week’s New Music
Jensen McRae, “Immune”
L.A.-area singer-songwriter Jensen McRae’s “Immune” started out as kind of a joke. Specifically, a friendly parody of Phoebe Bridgers. But the snippet of joke-song evolved into a full on single, acutely observing this unusual moment in time down to the details of waiting in line for a COVID test at Dodger Stadium. [artist info]
Mogwai, “Pat Stains”
As the Love Continues, which dropped today, is heralded as the Scottish post-rock outfit’s “most consistent” record in decades and finds the group “at their best,” Clash Music asserts. “Pat Stains” is the third single released from the album, Mogwai’s tenth studio record. [artist info]
Haim featuring Taylor Swift, “Gasoline (Remix)”
Taylor Swift joins the ladies of Haim on a remix of “Gasoline,” a song from the Valley-based group’s 2020 album, Women in Music Pt. III. Swift apparently enjoyed the collab, posting on Instagram, “Cancel the DNA test. I’m the 4th Haim sister.” [artist info]
Luis Fonsi featuring Rauw Alejandro, “Vacío”
“Despacito” superstar Luis Fonsi collaborates with fellow Puerto Rican artist Rauw Alejandro for this song, inspired by Son by Four’s 2000 ballad “A Puro Dolor.” The result is a nostalgic, throwback track. [artist info]
