The L.A. Marathon Is Sunday–Here’s How to Get Around

Time for the annual closing of every street you wanted to turn on

The L.A. Marathon–officially the 2019 Sketchers Performance Los Angeles Marathon–snakes across the city on Sunday, March 24, 2019. The route goes from a starting point at Dodger Stadium to a finish line in Santa Monica. That means significant marathon street closures and detours to be aware of if you’re not amongst the thousands of athletes tackling the course.

If you typically street-park your car along the route, you will be required to park elsewhere starting the night before, as no vehicles will be allowed along the race track on marathon day. The same applies if you have a driveway that goes out to a race course street–decide the night before if you’ll be in or out and plan accordingly, because while you can stay parked inside a private drive, you won’t be allowed to move the car until the marathon concludes.

Homes and businesses along the route should still be accessible on foot. Marathon organizers suggest you find the transportation officer closest to your entrance and explain the situation, and they will allow you to get to your property.

Bus commuters should note that, just as cars are banned from large areas along the route, same goes for buses. Detours will be in place for cars and busses alike to get most places they need to go, but be sure to leave yourself extra time to get to your destination.
