Make Music Pasadena Turns Old Pas Into a Mini Coachella—and It’s Free

177

Come this Saturday, June 6, Pasadena will be transformed into a melodic wonderland for the 8th annual Make Music Pasadena, a free (free!) mini festival that has, in the past, hosted now-huge bands like Matt and Kim, Grouplove, and more. This year’s lineup is stellar and features more than 150 bands. Here are five that can’t be missed:

Nick Waterhouse
With help from a sax or two, Waterhouse’s throwback sound reflects influences from Buddy Holly to Ty Segall.

Making Movies
Singer Enrique Chi and brother Diego move from cumbia to rock in a bilingual mix that taps their Panamanian roots.

Kishi Bashi
Multi-instrumentalist Kaoru Ishibashi pairs an upbeat indie-rock ethos with his classical violin training.

The Mudbug Brass Band
The octet makes spicy music with a funky sousaphone, skronking trombone, and twangy banjo.

How to Dress Well
Unabashedly imprinted by ’90s R&B, front man Tom Krell delivers a mean falsetto to chilled-out beats.
