Martha Stewart Is Bringing Some Elegance to Las Vegas
It was quite the weekend for Martha Stewart as she debuted her first restaurant, The Bedford by Martha Stewart, at Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino.
“It’s a rather strange time for me,” the iconic 81-year-old lifestyle maven and entrepreneur told a room full of reporters gathered for lunch with her on Aug. 13. “When most people my age are retiring, to embark on a restaurant of all things. But I’ve always wanted a restaurant and this opportunity I just couldn’t pass down.”
She went on to say, “You can’t do a restaurant when you’re having a daily show, and then when you’re doing all the other things, developing all the product I was developing…But now I don’t sleep anyway, so it’s okay. Stay up late and I can get up early and it doesn’t matter.”
Stewart and her team tell LAMag that the creation of the restaurant and preparing for its opening took under a year. The concept of The Bedford is to transport guests to a version of an authentic dining experience at Stewart’s famed country farmhouse, in Bedford, New York. The restaurant boasts French-inspired cuisine and a combination of Martha’s favorite family recipes. The menu features flavorful dishes from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Stewart says she’s a big fan of the menu’s Martha-tini and Martha-rita cocktails—most especially the pomegranate Martha-rita. She also said she will be visiting the restaurant a lot, so the staff can pick up her vibe.
“Being here and interacting with these fabulous people who work here and letting them get to know me and understand what I’m like will help a lot, I think. The more I show up, the better,” she said.
At the restaurant’s opening night party on Aug. 12, Stewart’s friend, Snoop Dogg came by to surprise her, and Ellen Pompeo, who Stewart told LAMag is a “fan girl,” was there to meet her for the very first time. At the media lunch on Aug. 13, she revealed that Snoop is currently building a house in Las Vegas and looking for a residency show in town.
Located conveniently near Paris’s hotel room elevator banks, Stewart’s restaurant is situated steps away from Lisa Vanderpump’s Vanderpump a Paris, Nobu, Bobby’s Burgers by Bobby Flay and Gordon Ramsay Steak. Stewart told LAMag she does not feel a sense of competition with other celebrity restaurants; she just wants to “do well.” The homemaking mogul also indicated that Ramsay needs to get her a good reservation: “I have not gotten to Gordon Ramsay’s very successful restaurant yet. We tried to go the first night but the only reservation that my friend could get was at 11 p.m. and that was like [2 a.m.] to us and we decided we wouldn’t do that.”
