KROQ Has Fired Its Entire Morning Team

“I assume it’s the ratings, which were down. The economy because it’s down,” Kevin Ryder said on Twitter

After more than 30 years on the air at KROQ, morning show host Kevin Ryder was fired from the station. His longtime Kevin and Bean co-host Gene “Bean” Baxter, left the station last November and the show was renamed Kevin in the Morning with Allie & Jensen. Co-hosts Allie MacKay and Jensen Karp were also let go by management over the phone.

Five years ago the station abruptly dismissed Kevin and Bean personalities Lisa May and Boyd Britton (Doc on the Roq) and fans revolted. “Why did KROQ fire all of us on the morning show?” Ryder tweeted. “I assume it’s the ratings, which were down. The economy because it’s down. But it’s a pretty crappy way to treat people.”

The show’s page on kroq.com is marked “access denied,” which is the same message Ryder received from station management. “There are three guys here to throw me out of the building. (I couldn’t make this up),” he tweeted this morning. “Not necessary. Leaving.”

In a statement published by Variety, a spokesperson for Entercom, KROQ’s parent company, said they’ve already lined up a new morning show they believe “will deliver what our fans are asking for and take our station into the future.

The statement concludes, “While change is always hard, we are excited about our new programming lineup and look forward to engaging with our fans across the city. Thank you Kevin and Bean for 30 entertaining years!”
