Whatever possessed Kim Kardashian West to brag about how “humbled” she was to be able to fly a squadron of her closest pals to a private island to party on her 40th birthday while the country goes broke and gets sick, the Twitterverse did not respond with well wishes for the reality TV tycoon.
In a series of posts Tuesday, Kardashian West shared photos of herself and her sun-kissed friends on an unnamed beach accompanied by breathless captions such as, “40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.”

What things, specifically, truly matter?
“We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40”
According to a subsequent tweet in the thread, Kim and her rather ample “inner circle” quarantined for two weeks and underwent multiple health screenings before flying via private jet to experience “normal” life on a private island, a “simple luxury” that none of “us” truly appreciated before the pandemic struck.
Twitter has had a profoundly negative reaction to Kim’s big 4-0 show and tell. Besides that California is still strongly discouraging nonessential travel, many people have wondered why she was compelled to share at all. One user summed up the theme of the following reaction storm, writing, “If you understood your privilege then you would’ve kept this private instead of posting it for all the less privileged to see.”

One user replied, “This conspicuous display of wealth is fucking disgusting, especially when so many are suffering. She can do these things because others live with so little. Redistribute her wealth now.”
Baskets costar Martha Kelly was more succinct: “Kindly go fuck yourself.”
According to TMZ, the guest list included the Kardashian-Jenner sibs, plus La La Anthony, Corey Gamble, NBA players Devin Booker and Tristan Thompson, and Scott and Mason Disick. Kanye isn’t visible in any of the photos that were posted, as he apparently had “work commitments.”
