Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy made more headlines than normally suits him when President Biden called him a “stupid son of bitch” on a hot mic in January. And while many agree that the question—”Do you think inflation is a political liability going into the midterms?”—may have been rather a dim query, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki says it might not even be the Fox gabber’s fault.
As Politico recounts, Psaki was a live, onstage guest of Pod Save America recently when podcast co-host Dan Pfeiffer asked the top Biden flack, “Is he a stupid son of a bitch, or does he just play a stupid son of a bitch on TV?”
The audience laughed, reportedly, after which Psaki answered, “Well, he works for a network that provides people with questions that—nothing personal to any individual, including Peter Doocy—but might make anyone sound like a stupid son of a bitch.”
In a statement to Politico Friday, a rep. for Fox News clarified, “In his role as White House correspondent, Peter Doocy’s job is to elicit truth from power for the American public. His questions are his own, he is a terrific reporter, and we are extremely proud of his work.”
To Doocy’s credit, Psaki also recalled that when Doocy was asked about it later by his Fox News colleague Sean Hannity, Doocy responded graciously, “I’m just asking my questions. He’s doing his job.”
