Remember simpler times, when a celebrity baby name like ‘Apple’ or ‘Pilot Inspektor’ seemed like wacky rich-people stuff? Well, Elon Musk and his partner Grimes are much richer than any of those people and, as such, need a much wackier name for their first child together. If Musk’s tweets about last night’s birth are to be believed, they have settled on X Æ A-12.
While many have speculated that X Æ A-12 must be a traditional family name on Elon Musk and Grimes’s home planet, the actual meaning of the moniker has not yet been confirmed by the new parents.

Business Insider reports that some people on social media are assuming the name will be interpreted as “X Ash Archangel”–and they might be on to something.
Would-be code breakers have pointed out that “A-12” is the designation of an airplane Lockheed built for CIA intelligence operations in the 1960s, which seems like something Elon Musk would know about, and the internal code name for that project was “Archangel.”
We know Grimes is into angel imagery herself; she released a 2012 song called “Angel” and a 2015 album titled Art Angels (though a few years after the release of that record she did distance herself from it, calling it “a piece of crap” and a “stain on [her] life,” so a mixed review there).
Musk reported on Twitter that both Grimes and the child are doing well. X Æ A-12 is the first child for Grimes and the seventh for Musk, who had six children with his first wife, Justine Wilson. His first son, Nevada, died at just 10 weeks old. His other children are Damian, Griffin, Xavier, Saxon, and Kai.
