Today is Back to the Future Day, which means it’s a day to celebrate all things 80s: The hair, the clothing, the movies, the narcissism, the blind optimism.
There is, then, no better way to spend this day than by heading over to the newly opened Button Mash in Echo Park, a combination restaurant/bar/arcade that rejoices in the glory of the Reagan years. According to their Facebook page, Button Mash is opening with a line-up of classic games—including 720, Sega’s Out Run, Toobin’, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Galaga, and Tron—as well as a handful of pinball machines. The games will be on rotation: “We have a large collection…that we want you to experience,” they say on Facebook. “We will be swapping in new games onto the floor regularly so you are sure to see something new almost every time you visit.”
Button Mash will open at 5:00 p.m. every night and stay open until midnight on weekdays and 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with kids allowed until 9:00 p.m. Food is provided by Starry Kitchen, the formerly underground Asian restaurant operated by Nguyen and Thi Tran. And in true throwback style, games accept Button Mash tokens only, which are available for $0.25 each.
Button Mash is located at 1391 W Sunset Blvd. in Echo Park. (213) 250-9903
