There are two ways to appear on Amazon’s Bosch. The first: be a really good actor. The second: be the victor of an eBay auction, one whose winning bidder will be a character in Michael Connelly’s next Harry Bosch novel; Then hope said novel is adapted for a future season of the series; Then hope your character is major enough to be included on the show, at which point you may or may not hear your name on TV (providing it wasn’t changed for some legal reason), which is kind of like being Titus Welliver, but not exactly. (There’s really only one way to appear on Bosch.)
Aspirations of small-screen fame and fortune aside, the Boyle Heights lending library Libros Schmibros is indeed auctioning off the chance for one lucky Connelly superfan to appear in The Wrong Side of Goodbye, the author’s latest novel, due out in November of this year. According to the listing, “the character is of Michael’s choosing, but he guarantees it won’t be negative,” which could be a good or bad thing depending on what kind of person you are. The winner will also get a signed and personally inscribed hardcover copy of the book.
There are still five days to go (the contest ends Sunday), and bidding is already at $3,050, so those for whom this is a life dream better start ferreting through their couch cushions or cashing in their 401Ks. If the price tag is causing sticker shock, consider that the funds will go to a good cause: 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go to Libros Schmibros, whose mission is to provide low- or no-cost books to all Angelenos.
