Guess who’s back, back again. Cinespias back, tell a friend. Yes, the acclaimed and Angeleno-adored outdoor screening organization has put out its August lineup. Hint, hint—it’s an ode to the classics (as always).
Cinespia will kick off August with A League of Their Own and Romeo + Juliet, then wrap it all up with a double feature of Death Becomes Her and Jennifer’s Body, as well as a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Saturday, August 6 — A League of Their Own
This month’s lineup begins in great fashion, with the 1992 summertime classic A League of Their Own. Yes, this classic film features none other than Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, and Madonna. The film follows two sisters as they join the ranks of America’s first female professional baseball league. As expected of a World War II era, the endeavor proves to be far more complicated than it should be when Jimmy Dugan (Hanks), a former big-time ball player turned drunk, takes up the managerial duties of their teams. Put on your best baseball uniforms for this one to fully embrace the ride ahead.
Saturday, August 13 — Romeo + Juliet (1996)
What’s better than Leonardo DiCaprio? Perhaps, a young DiCaprio playing Romeo in a Shakespearean update from the 90s. We all know the story of Romeo and Juliet, but this film takes the story to a more-modern suburb of Vienna. It’s a bold, punk-tinged portrayal of a romance that dates back to the late 16th century. Best of all, it’s as camp as one can imagine and the cult fanbase surrounding the film seems to grow every year. Dress however you please, whether it be the centuries-old fashion of the original or the grunge-core this remake was emulating.
Saturday, August 20 — Slumber Party: Death Becomes Her & Jennifer’s Body
No one can truly be sure if there’s anything better than a double feature, but cinephiles certainly have their minds made up. Two movies for the price of one is already a bargain, but the chance to watch Death Becomes Her and Jennifer’s Body back to back is a major treat. First off, attendees get to see Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis lead a satire about a fading actress’ encounter with potential immortality. Next up, Megan Fox plays a bloodthirsty cheerleader that goes on a rampage across her high school. These two are great flavors from different decades and genres that are certain to taste better together.
Saturday, August 27 — Raiders of the Lost Ark
Not much needs to be said about this classic as it spearheaded an iconic series into fame. Harrison Ford plays a witty and sarcastic adventurer who often gets in over his head—all for the sake of saving artifacts that “belong in a museum.” It’s goofy, it’s intriguing, and it has a big, deadly bolder and melting faces; but most of all, it’s very fun. Throw on your best fedora for this outing and prepare to relive Raiders in all of its glory.
