This weekend I was invited to visit Brookledge, the famous magician’s clubhouse and theater in Hancock Park for a private performance of “Thayer’s Box,” a new revue hosted by musician/magician Rob Zabrecky. The hidden hall is owned by the Larsen family, the creators of Hollywood’s Magic Castle and is nestled in an overgrown garden and perched above a creek that runs through backyards in the neighborhood between Wilshire and Olympic. Zabrecky owns the show and summons forth a stunningly madcap array of dancing girls, fire dancers and classic tricks on this legendary stage. There’s even a bit of soft shoe. The shows are by invitation only, so make contact with any prestidigitator you can and try to score an invite to the next show tomorrow night.
