The Best Things to Do This Week in L.A.

Maxine Waters, a Yayoi Kusama doc, and a secret garden

Summer is winding down, but the city is still heating up with fun things to do. To help you get to the good stuff, we’ve picked the best things to do this week in L.A.

Monday: Secret Rosé Garden at the Beverly Wilshire

This pop-up bar, open until September 3, takes inspiration from a garden bar that the historic hotel had in the ’60s and ’70s–but updated for 2018 Instagram-bait tastes. Rosé flows, of course, (in cocktail, popsicle, and standard wine options) and the “speakeasy” entrance reached via a guest room makes it extra fun.

Tuesday: Women’s Equality Day with Rep. Maxine Waters

Congresswoman Maxine Waters sits down for a conversation with L.A. City Councilwoman Nury Martinez. Expect a lively evening and an inside look at what it takes to be a woman in leadership, and how the political landscape is shaping up in 2018.

Wednesday: Whiskeys of the World Tasting Dinner

Learn more about craft whiskeys made in Scotland, Canada, and the United States from expert Dave Whitton at this dinner that pairs spirits from each country with dishes from Alcove’s new head chef, Matt Sieger.

Thursday: Kusama: Infinity Screening and Q&A

Our obsession with artist Yayoi Kusama knows no bounds. Catch LACMA’s free screening of this documentary that not only shows off her amazing installations, but also reveals the complicated family life and professional obstacles Kusama had to overcome on her way to becoming the top-selling female artist in the world. Filmmaker Heather Lenz takes questions after the film.

Friday: DoLA Anniversary Party with DIIV & Restless Nites DJs

Local music and entertainment site DoLA is celebrating six years with a party in Echo Park. DIIV will perform live and the Restless Nights DJs will keep tunes spinning through the night. Best of all, the event is totally free with online RSVP.
