As millions of Angelenos do their civic duty by obediently hunkering down at home to ride out the COVID-19 pandemic, many have suddenly found they have an unprecedented amount of time to watch television, for better or worse. But entertainment has also been a salve for our sanity. Reality fluff has become much-needed comfort food. Documentaries have become essential escapes from an uncertain moment in history. If the world hadn’t suddenly ground to a halt, would so many people have been rapt by a roadside zoo owner with a mullet and a criminal record? Hard to say.
During the stay-at-home orders, entertainment has brought us together when we can’t actually be together. At the very least, it’s given us something to talk to one another about on FaceTime and family Zoom calls besides a virus.
From new scripted series to episodic documentaries to older shows we’ve finally had the time to revisit, we’re pitting them against each other in a March Madness-style bracket. Which show will emerge as the ultimate in quarantine content? You decide.
