Benjamin Millepied’s L.A. Discoveries

Dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied recently launched his new dance company in Los Angeles. The New York transplant and Silver Lake resident shares some of his favorite spots around town:

The Huntington Library: “It’s one of my favorites. The desert garden feels like you’re on another planet.”

Griffith Observatory: “I like to go hiking, and I visit the Observatory on a regular basis. Since moving to L.A., I spend more time in nature—it’s the hunger for the gorgeous, gorgeous West Coast.”

Hollyhock House: “There’s so much to see architecturally. I do love the olive trees, and Barnsdall Park is a great spot.”

Danish Modern L.A.: “This Danish furniture store on Sunset has great stuff; it’s not overpriced.”

Skylight Books: “I go there regularly. It’s a great art bookstore.”

The Palace Theatre: “There are more performing spaces than I have enough time to visit. Whether they’re up and running or they’re old theaters, there are so many fantastic places to perform in L.A. The Palace on Broadway is phenomenal. There’s a bit of charm there. I’d love for our company to perform there.”

Speranza Restaurant: “A recent favorite is this small Italian restaurant in Silver Lake. It’s a casual setting, which is really nice, and I like the people there. The bottarga pasta is great.”
