For this dreamy interpretation of Mozart’s operatic take on the Don Juan fable, architect Frank Gehry (right) has collaborated with Laura and Kate Mulleavy of the fashion house Rodarte. “The Mulleavy sisters have designed these gorgeous, poetic creations that attempt to summon the spirit of the characters without being too literal,” says Christopher Alden, director of the L.A. Philharmonic production. The action plays out against an abstract backdrop of Gehry-esque shapes. Conductor Gustavo Dudamel’s theatrics will add another layer, Alden says. “I think he will be quite a force, visually as well as musically.”
