To put Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick together in a buddy comedy is a casting call so correct, so perfect that it’s almost weird no one’s thought of it before.
But no one has, and so Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates marks the duo’s first time sharing a screen—and a glorious share it is. Plaza and Kendrick play Tatiana and Alice, two deadbeats who convince brothers Mike and Dave Stangle (Adam DeVine and Zac Efron) to take them to Hawaii as dates for the Stangles’ sister’s wedding. The premise of the film is a little shaky—the boys need dates because they’re too rowdy if left alone, per their father—but stupider premises have existed for buddy comedies, and this one looks like it will work just fine as a launching pad for Plaza and Kendrick to go level-11 wedding crasher.
The trailer contains everything you might want: ATVs, porn, apple bongs and the line, “We’re gonna look respectable as f–k.”
