Anne Heche in Coma After Car Crash and Fire, Facing Possible Charges

The actress has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident on Friday, and LAPD is testing her blood for drugs and alcohol

Anne Heche, hospitalized after she crashed her car into a house Friday, igniting a blaze that destroying her vehicle and the home, has downgraded from stable to critical condition and is reportedly in a coma as of Monday afternoon.

“Shortly after the accident, Anne Heche became unconscious, slipping into a coma,” her spokesperson told Page Six. “She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.”

A rep for the actress also told Deadline, “At this time Anne is in extreme critical condition… She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”

On Friday, the Los Angeles Police Department received a warrant to test Heche’s blood to find out whether she was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol the day of the accident, reports NBC News. Heche could face charges stemming from the accident, including misdemeanor DUI and hit-and-run charges if it is found she was under the influence.

“The info we received this morning was a warrant that was obtained the same day as the traffic collision, which was August 5. The warrant was to draw blood, and an investigation is ongoing pending the blood test results,” an LAPD spokesperson told Page Six.

“If found intoxicated, [Heche] could be charged with misdemeanor DUI hit and run.”

On Friday, Heche was reportedly driving erratically at high speeds around 11 a.m. and crashed into an apartment complex’s garage. She then drove off and collided with a house in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles.
