Sad news has been confirmed by the Beverly Hills Police Department this evening: Whitney Houston has died at 48. The singer, in town to attend Grammy events this week, was found dead at The Beverly Hilton hotel. The cause of her death is unknown. Paramedics arrived at the hotel after receiving a 911 call but were unable to revive Houston. Although officials have stated that no evidence of foul play was found at the scene, an investigation into her death has been opened.
In addition to being one of the most successful recording artists of all time, Houston was an actress, producer, and model. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Houston was discovered by Clive Davis, who remained a mentor and friend during the singer’s career and tumultuous personal life, which included struggles with drug addiction and an on-again off-again relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown.
Houston is survived by her mother and her 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina.
