When and where was Mickey Mouse officially born?

Mickey was first inked in Silver Lake and debuted at a Hollywood test screening in May 1928, but it was retired Disney archivist Dave Smith who made the mouse a Scorpio. “I found a program for New York’s Colony Theatre dated November 18, 1928,” says Smith. “They opened at noon with Steamboat Willie, so we even know what time he was born.” You can wish him a happy birthday at Disneyland this month—when he turns the big 9-0.
