“Don’t Move, Improve”

So was the motto of Ted Watkins, founder of the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC), an organization founded in 1965 dedicated to improving the quality of life for the residents of Watts and the neighboring communities of South L.A.
It looks like WLCAC may soon be able to undertake some major improvements with their recent nomination to receive a renovation of up to $50,000 from Maxwell House as a part of the coffee company’s Drops of Good project. Maxwell House has partnered with Modern Family’s Julie Bowen and Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities.
WLCAC was one of ten centers across the nation selected for their tireless work aiding struggling communities. The top five centers with the most online votes will win the makeover of a lifetime. WLCAC currently sits in a hotly contested 7th place, although voting continues through June 17. Make sure to visit The Maxwell House Project and cast your vote before time is up.
