Another Friday, another caller’s question posed—and answered.
Today’s FAQ: “Is there a Santa Monica Museum of Art?”
My answer: You bet. The contemporary museum SMMoA, located inside Bergamot Station, resides in building G1 of the complex. I just love Bergamot, you feel arty the minute you park inside the ring of galleries and, like most museums, they have a great gift shop (v. important). Who doesn’t need a red Chihuahua wearing a medical cone that doubles as a bedside lamp? Interesting exhibits and programs for adults and kids. Check out directions as the entrance is tricky to find and traffic on Cloverfield the pits. I have many fond memories here from gallery openings and museum anniversaries. My fav: one year the magazine was working on a sex issue, and I would often run into the musician Beck (and his mom) at the to-dos. The first time I met him, years ago, I asked if he went to strip clubs or anything of the sort—research for the issue. He doesn’t.
