What the Superbloom Looks Like from Space

Hey look, you can see the flowers without trampling them

People are braving bananas traffic and hordes of ill-mannered #content creators to get close to the superbloom of poppies that’s painted the hills of Lake Elsinore.

Without trampling any flowers or injuring any city employees, the European Union Earth Observation Programme’s satellite captured a pretty social media-friendly image of the orange burst of blooms.


In its roundup of places to check out the superbloom—Lake Elsinore isn’t the only game in town, people—the L.A. Times shared a remarkable side-by-side comparison of Google Earth images of Lake Elsinore, which appeared to be almost completely brown as recently as August of last year. A rainy winter made a big difference.
