Southern California Edison Power Lines

You Can’t Eat the Sunshine is a weekly podcast series produced by Kim Cooper and Richard Schave in which the Esotouric founders talk with L.A. personalities about the city’s myths, contradictions, and inspirations.

This week, Richard and Kim talk with Huntington Library’s photography curator Jenny Watts about the gathering and digitizing 70,000 negatives from the archives of Southern California Edison. They also chat with Ken Bernstein, who is head of Historic Resources for the City of Los Angeles.

In this exclusive clip, Jenny sheds light on California’s history with electricity from the late 19th century through the 1960s, and Ken discusses the challenges surrounding the preservation of L.A.’s nearly 30,000 historically-designated structures.
