Outlaw Go-Karts Busted at the Port of L.A.

The Port of Los Angeles is in the news again today—and not only for the ongoing labor dispute currently threatening to shut down West Coast ports. The Los Angeles Times reports federal officials are planning to keep a closer eye on shipments that enter the United States at the ports of L.A. and Long Beach after recently discovering more than 700 items, all sent from Asia, that violate the Clean Air Act, including “foreign made motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, gas-powered generators and other equipment” lacking mandated pollution controls. Some high polluting go-karts, boat engines, and miniature trucks nearly snuck in, too, and somewhere an eco-friendly Segway is smirking.
