Here’s one more small thing we’re not supposed to tell you about the October issue, on newsstands now:
 
While snapping pictures of lifeguards in action for“Fighting the Tide,” featured in our latest issue, photographer Dustin Snipes (no, that’s not him, above) raced into the frigid ocean water at Zuma Beach, ahead of L.A. Countylifeguards, who emerged empty-handed moments because, well, nobody wasdrowning. “There was only one beach rescue that day, and it was miles away,”says Snipes. “A day later they had their busiest day of the season—40rescues—but I wasn’t there.”
