Today we posted Dame of the Docks, Deborah Schoch’s Q&A with Geraldine Knatz, the executive director of the Port of Los Angeles.
Here’s an interesting statistic that didn’t make it into the story:
It would take 18,000 containers (provided each was 20 feet long) to hold the freight that came into the Port of Los Angeles on one of the days Schoch interviewed Knatz.
Sure, that’s a lot of containers, but Dame of the Docks also got us thinking bigger about security in Los Angeles. We’ve reached out to Councilwoman Janice Hahn, Sheriff Lee Baca, RAND Corp. Senior Advisor Brian Jenkins, and Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach Commander Captain Roger R. Laferriere for their expert opinions on the topic.
