Nautica’s 25th Malibu Triathlon Raises $1.1 Mil for Children’s Hospital

Before putting on their Sunday best and heading to the Emmy Awards last night, Ed Helms, Rainn Wilson, and Jon Cryer went for a swim, a jog, and a run. The stars, along with Natalie Morales, Mark Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Theissen, Chris Harrison and more than 3,000 other people (including yours truly) competed in the 25th annual Nautica Triathlon in Malibu. Getting to the race, which takes over parts of Zuma and Westward beaches and a stretch of PCH near Point Dume, was especially tough this year, and not just because the event happens so early in the morning (the alarm started buzzing at 4): PCH was closed in the wee hours due to a fatal car crash, sending the triathlon competitors and spectators that were traveling to Malibu from the south heading west for the freeways. Still, Nautica and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles should be counted among Sunday’s big winners. The event raised a whopping $1.1 million for the non-profit medical center this year.
