UPDATE: 10/21/2020 – The location of this event has been changed to the Forum, 3900 W. Manchester Blvd, Inglewood. The event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on October 24, 2020.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama and Lakers superstar LeBron James have both put considerable attention into turning out the vote this election year. Now, as we enter the final days of the campaign, Obama’s When We All Vote and James’s More Than a Vote are teaming up for an event in Los Angeles designed to encourage early, in-person voting.
On October 24, the day many of L.A. County’s in-person early voting centers open, the two groups will stage a family-friendly gathering at City Hall in downtown L.A. The party kicks off at noon, and promises music, secret celebrity appearances, and food provided by DoorDash and José Andrés’s World Central Kitchen. Social distancing and mask wearing are mandatory at the outdoor gathering; there will be PPE available to distribute to those who need it.
After the entertainment wraps up, the real focus of the day begins: Attendees will be encouraged to walk from the event to nearby early voting centers and ballot drop-off sites. The closest ballot drops are located at 225 N. Hill Street and 203 S. Los Angeles Street. Early voting centers open on the 24th are located at 120 S. Los Angeles Street and 135 N. Grand Ave.
Voters who have questions or are concerned about intimidation, or went to learn more about preventing voter suppression in their communities will have the opportunity to meet with voter protection support experts from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law.
When We All Vote Together Early Celebration, October 24 at noon. RSVP online for more information.
