Crime was down in 2011 for the ninth consecutive year.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck detailed the 2011 year-end crime statistics report at a meeting Thursday, and the numbers suggest Los Angeles is an increasingly safe city.
Reported incidents of robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, burglary theft from vehicle, personal/other theft, and auto theft fell by single-digit percentiles, while there were nearly 20% fewer rapes reported last year than in 2010.
There was a slight uptick in the number of homicides (+.3%) but given all the other statistics, we’ll sleep soundly tonight.
