Herpetological Happenings

This is an announcement a year in the making: In January, a Komodo dragon named Lima laid 23 eggs at the LA Zoo. All but one finally hatched in August over the course of 11 days, marking the first successful attempt at breeding these large lizards in Los Angeles. Now the baby reptiles are on display at Winnick Family Children’s Zoo in their recently renovated habitat. These Indonesian natives are only 14 to 20 inches long (they’ll grow to be 9 to 10 feet) but they’re already hobnobbing; Betty White even stopped by.
