Seven months after the Canary Island pine planted in 2002 near Griffith Observatory in honor of George Harrison was destroyed by a swarm of irony-loving beetles, a Yew pine has been planted in its spot. Today would have been the Quiet Beatle’s 72nd birthday, and a cake-cutting event at the Hollywood Walk of Fame is scheduled to follow the replanting in Griffith Park for the occasion.
