Everybody Goes! West Hollywood’s Single-Stall Bathrooms Will Soon Be Unisex

Because using the restroom shouldn’t be an exercise in gender identification

As of tomorrow it will no longer be legal for businesses in West Hollywood to designate single-stall restrooms for men or for women. That means gender-specific signage and gender-specific designs are out, and gender-neutral language (ie: RESTROOM) is in.

Mandating that all single-stall bathrooms in public places be gender neutral is a simple but revolutionary solution to a number of complications that arise for parents, transgender people, and anyone who has ever wondered about using a vacant bathroom designated for the opposite sex instead of waiting in line. City councilwoman Abbe Land, who initiated the ordinance, has said the law will benefit everyone. Businesses have 60 days to comply. See ya, stick figures!
