It’s Bike Week. Who says? The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, that’s who, and the organization is backing it up with cycling-friendly events scheduled each day this week. Here’s the schedule:
May 13: Fix Your Bike Day
Before you get back on the bike, get your bike back in shape. More than a dozen locations are offering workshops today, including Orange 20 Bikes, Valley Bikery, and more. See a full list here.
May 14: Blessing of the Bicycles
This early morning interfaith event is exactly what it sounds like: participants who meet at the entrance of Good Samaritan Hospital can get blessed, get breakfast, and get a complimentary bike checkup—all in an effort to promote bike safety.
May 15: Guided Ride Day
Five neighborhood bike rides showcase Culver City, Pasadena, West Hollywood, and Los Angeles. Ranging from 5 to 7 miles, each ride is organized by a different group and tailored for various interests and skill levels. See event details here.
May 16: Bike to Work Day
To encourage commuters to leave their cars at home, the METRO, Big Blue Bus, Culver CityBus, Glendale Beeline, LADOT, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit, Pasadena ARTS, Santa Clarita Transit, and Torrance Transit are all offering free rides to customers boarding with a bicycle or helmet. (Metrolink will only offer free rides to passengers with a bicycle.)
May 17-19: Bike Local Weekend
Local businesses across L.A. have partnered with Metro to offer limited-time discounts to shoppers who mention Bike Week. Click here to see a full map of participating shops and restaurants.
