Anne Heche in Critical Condition After Crashing Car into House

Anne Heche has been hospitalized with severe burns after crashing her mini-Cooper into a garage and then a separate home

Anne Heche crashed her mini-Cooper into a home in Mar Vista Friday, igniting a blaze that destroyed most of the residence, as well as her vehicle, according to TMZ. Heche has been taken to a local hospital, reportedly in critical condition.

Heche first crashed into a garage in a nearby apartment complex, according to reports. Residents tried to pull her out of her car, but put the car in reverse and drove toward the home before the vehicle plowed into it a short time after.

Aerial video from showed firefighters on the roof of the home trying to extinguish the fire around 11:30 a.m, via KTLA.

TMZ describes the burns as “severe” and said Heche was “flailing” on the stretcher while trying to escape it. Heche was taken to the hospital, where the Los Angeles Fire Department said she was in critical condition, according to FOX11. No other injuries were reported.

Heche, 53, is also the author of Call Me Crazy, and made headlines for her romantic relationships with Steve Martin and Ellen DeGeneres.

“I believed I was from another planet. I think I was insane,” she wrote of her second personality, Celestia.

A 2000 Heche episode that has come to be known as the “Fresno Incident” began when she split from Degeneres after three years, abandoned her car in Fresno, entered a stranger’s house in her bra, and talked about “going to heaven” with some children in the home as well as responding officers.
