Today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences confirmed that James Franco and Anne Hathaway will co-host the 83rd Academy Awards in March.
We probably should have seen this coming. Franco’s personal mission to accomplish more in less time than any other actor-student-writer-model-artist alive picked up some serious speed this year, and Hathaway, who has perfromed in past Oscar productions, has been promoting Love and Other Drugs (dressed and undressed) incessantly. But can they, will they—as themselves—make us laugh? And make Jude Law mad? And keep us from running to the store to get that one last errand of the week done knowing that we’re not missing anything during the second hour of the show, anyway?
We’ll have to wait and see. At least there’s one thing about next year’s telecast we know we can count on: it probably won’t be as wacky as this one.
