AP courses are found in about 65 percent of U.S. high schools, and IB courses in about 4 percent. Both are far more demanding and much harder to dumb down than honors courses. AP final exams are usually three hours long, and IB final exams as many as five hours. Half of a typical AP exam and almost all of a typical IB exam consists of free-response questions, written and graded by independent college instructors and high school teachers.
