Zev Yaroslavsky Sees His Shadow

Los Angeles magazine celebrated our 50th anniversary last week with a gala party here at 5900 Wilshire. The idea was to celebrate the past and look forward to “future memories.” After the party we received a photo from artist Gary Baseman and a story about a great time travel encounter. Another guest in attendance was County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, who Baseman last visited in the 1970s as a senior at Fairfax High School. The young artist shadowed the then-city councilman and acted as “Councilman For A Day.” A newspaper clipping from the time says Baseman attended a city council meeting and that he and Yaroslavsky “…spent the remainder of the day together learning about the operation of city government.”  Even though Baseman did not follow in his mentor’s footsteps, we still think he was Teacher’s Pet.
