Who’s behind the fabulous ’80s playlist at the Burbank airport?

The first time I heard the Cure in an elevator I was shattered, but now I embrace the many moods of Muzak, which is piped into Bob Hope Airport. Rudy Barrow, the airport’s interim director of information and communications technology, selects what you hear 24/7 on the PA system. “It’s 80 percent ’80s music because I like it,” he says of his Muzak picks. Barrow is an ex-MTV staffer who was a sound engineer for Color Me Badd and Kool and the Gang. “I kick it up if the weather is dreary,” he says, “but we can’t play Van Halen at six a.m.”
