Los Angeles magazine writer Dave Gardetta profiled estate sale maven Cynthia Abernethy in our pages last year. I’m a big fan of her sales and attend regularly. She’s got the best houses, she’s always cordial and extremely fair to her regular customers. However, if you break her rules, the hammer comes down. This weeks’ choice quote from Cynthia’s email dispatch: “This is not going to be a week to test my patience. This means I don’t want to hear you whining over $2.00 at half price time with 25 people waiting behind you in line to pay, especially when I know you hid the item and came back for it. Even more infuriating is I know you bought one of your kids a house and took 10 people to Europe on vacation…I’m not stupid, I know you can afford the extra $2.00.” A reminder to be on your best behavior.
Cynthia also adds a plug for a new store selling the items that you missed out on the first time around:
“Many of you E-mail me the day after the sale sorry you did not buy something you saw. Before you had no chance to get it, gone forever. I am happy to announce that Danny Brown my leftover specialist is opening a thrift store, grand opening Saturday the 16th from 7:00-5:00. You might be able to buy what you missed before. The Yard Sale Depot, 853-B S. Glendora Ave. West Covina, 91790.
