From names etched in stone and flashing neon spectaculars to broken LEDs, Broadway is a mishmash of faded sign glory. Councilmember Jose Huizar and Bringing Back Broadway are coordinating an effort to allow bigger and brighter signage to light up the revitalizing street. The Broadway Sign Supplemental Use District would encourage “graceful” neon, preservation of fading ghost signs, and the recreation of massive blade signs that run the entire height of historic buildings while banning things like balloons, sails, and wiggly inflatables.
