Video Village With Ask Chris: Timur And The Dime Museum

The indescribably wonderful Timur and the Dime Museum performed this weekend as part of the Los Angeles Live Arts Exchange. Lead singer Timur Bekbosunov has been compared to a symphony hall of great vocal talents, from Björk to David Bowie to Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and his incredible vocal range, dynamic and compelling stage persona, and orchestra are as big as all that. I feel like those lucky few that saw Elvis Presley on the Louisiana Hayride. Thirty years ago, German opera singer Klaus Nomi called his performances “New Wave Vaudeville.” Today, Nomi’s songwriter Kristian Hoffman is collaborating with Cal Arts grad Timur on the next wave. Here is a clip of Timur and The Dime Museum performing Hoffman’s 1981 hit Total Eclipse. The festival runs through October 6th and you can still catch a concert of New Orleans brothel songs, and the cyborg Charles Lindbergh.
