Video Village With Ask Chris: One Hundred Stylophones At Compton City Hall

David Bowie famously used a Stylophone on Space Oddity in 1969. More recently one hundred fans of the bizarre musical instrument gathered to play them in the spacy environs of the 1977 Compton City Hall. Machine Project in Echo Park coordinated the mass play-along of the tiny British-made synthesizers as part of the Getty Museum’s Pacific Standard Time project. I’m thinking this edited clip is a lot more pleasant than the electronic cacophony that wafted from that fountain earlier this summer.
