I get a little shiver every time a film crew comes in to unlock Johnie’s at Wilshire and Fairfax. The little googie coffee shop has magically survived and is still holding as the neighborhood ebbs and flows around it. Yesterday I noticed the chaser lights were chasing and today I spotted a cleaning crew and window washer at the nearly six-decade-old restaurant designed by Armet & Davis. I spent a few weeks cleaning Johnie’s and then an afternoon serving pie when the Los Angeles Conservancy opened it for a tour in 2005. Check out the Formica and Naugahyde interior of this mid-century masterpiece in this commercial shot there last year.
