More than fifty years after the first performance at his namesake theater near downtown, legendary puppeteer Bob Baker appears to be hanging up his marionettes for good. In an email sent to supporters this morning, Baker and partners, who have been trying to raise funds to keep the venue afloat, announced that they are putting the building up for sale. Donations are still being accepted and angels can click here to help save the place, but today’s news is pretty grim. There must be enough former kids out there with fond memories of the puppets and Balian ice cream in the party room to save this landmark. Please step up. This makes me fret and makes me frown.
