The MPAA used to be in a building on Ventura Boulevard in Encino with really cool murals in front, but they’re gone now. Where did the mosaics go?

Like the Ark of the Covenant and the Tail ‘o the Pup, those murals are being held at an undisclosed location, possibly to return in the future.  As part of its move into the building in 1994, the Motion Picture Association of America (they’re the folks who invented the ratings system) surrounded the structure with a tall fence adorned with 21 Venetian glass mosaics by artist Margaret Nielsen that included scenes from such films as Robin Hood and Lawrence of Arabia. The nonprofit outgrew the space and relocated in the Sherman Oaks Galleria in 2008, and the mosaics went into storage.
